GMS Calendar ©1992-1993 All Rights Reserved Green Mountain Software 9404 Valley Lane Huntsville, Alabama 35803-1326 USA The GMS Calendar shareware application is a System-7 aware message database and calendar that allows importing and exporting message data, finding any text stored on any day, and to quickly move to days that have messages stored in them. GMS Calendar also includes a convenient “To-Do” list manager. The best way to use GMS Calendar is to put it in your Startup Items Folder (sys7) or make it a startup application (sys6, multifinder.) Small Background Window When GMS Calendar is in the background, it is a small Icon-sized window that you may option-drag anywhere on the desktop. By clicking on the icon-window you bring GMS Calendar to the foreground and it displays a calendar. The calendar window may also be dragged anywhere and the location is remembered. By checking the Small Background Window checkbox in the Window Preferences Dialog, you may toggle the small background window on and off. Choose Preferences-Window from the File Menu.   Click on Month and Year at the bottom to get popup menus for navigation to other months & years. Keys: up arrow: move to next month (with notes closed) command-up arrow: move to next month (with notes opened) down arrow: move to previous month (with notes closed) command-down arrow: move to previous month (with notes opened) right arrow: move to next day (with notes closed) command-right arrow: move to next day (with notes opened) left arrow: move to previous day (with notes closed) command-left arrow: move to previous day (with notes opened) option-up arrow: move to next year (with notes closed) command-option-up arrow: move to next year (with notes opened) option-down arrow: move to previous year (with notes closed) command-option-down arrow: move to previous year (with notes opened) page-down: scroll notes down (with notes opened) page-up: scroll notes up (with notes opened) Note: arrow keys move the cursor within the text when the notes list is visible unless the command key is also pressed. command-K: backup calendar data command-I: import text file (see required file format below) command-E: export file command -F: find text command -G: find text again command-R: open font preferences dialog command-W: open window preferences dialog command-Q: quit Enter key: toggle notes opened and closed Home key, or command-T: move to today Text may be entered for any day just by opening the notes list (click on the notes toggle button, double-click on a day, or press the Enter key.) The text will be saved automatically when you move from that day or quit or close the notes list. Days that contain notes are underlined and for color Macs, displayed in red. Type or paste the notes into the scrollable portion of the window. To delete multiple notes, choose Delete Calendar Notes from the utility popup menu at the upper-right of the window. A dialog is provided for deleting notes.   When the notes list is hidden and you choose Copy, the current selected date is copied to the clipboard. If the notes are open, then copy works with the text. Font Preferences In addition to setting the small background window, you may set the font, size, and style of the characters used on the calendar face. The color and style of the current day and days containing notes may also be set. Choose Preferences -Font from under the File Menu to make the desired changes. Finding Text Choose Find from under the File Menu to get the find dialog. Type or paste the desired text to search for and click on the Ok button. If the text is found, the day that the found text is located will be the currently selected date. You may search forward, backword, and forward in the current note if it is opened. The find dialog is draggable and its position is remembered. You may dismiss the find dialog with command-period and the escape key. You may halt a find with command-period. The format for imported notes is as follows: mm/dd/yyyy text notes of any length. Notes must begin with the date for the note on a line by itself. The year has to be the entire number: (YES: 3/6/1988) (NO: 3/6/88). The text should follow on the next line and may be of any length (<32000 characters please). When importing, every line from the input text file is checked to see if it looks like a date, if it doesn't, then it belongs to the notes for the last encountered date. The best way to see the notes format is just to export some notes that you have entered and look at the resulting text file. Use the popup menu provided on the export file dialog to select which notes to export: Day, Week, Month, Year, or All Notes. “To-Do” List Manager: GMS Calendar will maintain a convenient “To-Do” list so that you won’t miss those important deadlines, anniversaries, and birthdays. Select Open To-Do List from the utility popup menu at the upper-right of the window. Use the buttons provided on the “To-Do” dialog to enter, modify, and delete your important entries. All buttons on the “To-Do” dialog have keyboard equivalents: the first character of each button may be pressed to activate that button. The Enter & Return keys toggle the Expand & Contract button. Command -W (⌘-W) closes the “To-Do” dialog.   Shareware!! GMS Calendar is a shareware product. If you use it, please register it by sending in the shareware fee and order form at the end of this document. Click on the scrollbar at the bottom of this window.
